What is Nail Fungus?
Nail fungus, also called onychomycosis, is a common condition that causes toenails (and sometimes fingernails) to become thick, discolored, brittle, or crumbly. The infection typically begins as a small white or yellow spot under the nail and can spread deeper, causing the nail to thicken, darken, and separate from the nail bed. While nail fungus may seem like only a cosmetic issue, untreated infections can cause pain, discomfort in shoes, and, in some cases, lead to more serious complications.
